This movie portrays three women living in today's Algeria between modern society and Islamic fundamentalism, self-determination and dependence. Goucem, a young woman who works for a photographer and mistress of a rich doctor, her mother Papicha, a former cabaret star, and her best friend Fifi, a prostitute, all live in a hotel in the city center of Algiers. I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.
This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
